In 2009, in an effort to bring contractors together and further promote safety, National Safety Resource Center formed the Ann Arbor Safety Council. Members of the Ann Arbor Safety Council include multiple trade and general contractors as well as health care and public safety employees.
In 2011, National Safety Resource Center and the Ann Arbor Safety Council launched the Hand Safety Awareness Campaign. Did you know hand injuries account for almost 30% of all workplace injuries in the U.S. each year? Or that 70% of workers who sustained a hand injury were not wearing gloves? In construction, hand injuries are only second to back injuries and cost of $350 million each year.
The Ann Arbor Safety Council holds monthly luncheon meetings at University of Michigan. These meetings allow members to discuss safety issues and concerns observed on job site and in the news, safety trends, changes in OSHA standards/regulations, etc.
